The San Diego Actors Theatre is
a non-profit professional theatre organization committed to presenting
high quality and exciting Contemporary American Theatre.
We at SDAT are also committed to excellence in Arts Education
and have demonstrated that to the community with the following eight
culturally rich programs that were created and developed over the last
twenty years.
We invite you to participate in our Theatre Outreach programs. We know that you'll see it enrich and enliven the educational experience of your students.
BEST OF THE BARD Professional
actors from the Actors Theatre will perform and discuss the most famous
scenes from Shakespeare's plays. Scenes included will be Kate and
Petruchio, Taming of the Shrew; Hamlet and Ophelia, Hamlet; Helena and
Demetrius, Midsummer Night's Dream; and Macbeth and Lady Macbeth from
the Scottish Play.
Eligibility: grades 8-12; maximum of 75 students
Cost:
$250.00 Effective 12/01/08 Time: one class period Arrangements: small theatre or large classroom with
performing
space is required. SHAKESPEARE'S WOMEN OR SHAKESPEARE'S MEN Patricia
Elmore Costa, Artistic Director of the San Diego Actors Theatre and
Special Guest Artist will perform a selection of dramatic and comedic
speeches and scenes of Shakespeare's most memorable and exciting female
and male characters. Discussion of character & play and their
comparison to contemporary women and men will follow.
Shakespeare's
women will include Kate, Lady Macbeth, Rosalind and Celia, Viola and
Olivia, Emilia and Desdemona. Shakespeare's men will include Sir
Capulet, Friar Lawrence (Romeo & Juliet), Cassius, Brutus, Antony
(Julius Caesar), and Dogberry (Much Ado About Nothing). Student
participation included in this beloved program.

PULITZER PRIZE WOMEN POETS Professional
Actresses with the San Diego Actors Theatre Outreach Program will give
an interpreted reading/performance from the selected poetry of Pulitzer
Prize-winning women poets of the last 25 years. The poetry of Anne Sexton, Sylvia Plath, Jorie Graham and Lisel Mueller will be featured. Discussions will follow.
